Sonargaon is a hamlet of dargahs and mosques. It contains ruins of mansions from the old Panam City, the Dargahs which are tombs of Sufi saints, and the Sadarbari Museum of folk art. Its Muslim influence is ubiquitous and overstated, but there's also a great deal of Hindu influence. This stems from Panam City's historical position as a trading city for Hindu merchants. Also, look out for the Hindu Zamindar as it is a good combination of Muslim, Hindu, and European architecture.
At the entrance of the mansions, you'll find exquisite tile art. It has the same kind of beauty you'll find at the Goaldi Mosque and the Pan Pir Dargah. Unfortunately, partition forced residents to abandon this historical site. Still, the depleted city is beautiful.
Take a bus from the Gulistan Station to Sonargaon paying 40TK. Or take a rickshaw via the Moghbazaar Road.
