About Dhakeshwari Temple

This 1,200-year-old temple is very popular in Dhaka, but the architecture is neither Hindu or Islamic. Its structure and intricate art belong to the neighboring region of Arakan. The temple has seen all kinds of destruction in its lifetime, but just as many renovations. When the Mughals renovated it, they used sand, lime, and mortar.

These temples, with their exquisitely detailed wooden doors, house the two Magh deities of Vajrayana Buddhism but are open to people of all faith.
