About Armenian Church

The Armenian Church in Dhaka was established by Armenians in the 18th century. It stands as a testament to the two country's old friendly relations. These Armenians were Christians belonging to Greek or Orthodox Churches and constructed churches wherever they stayed.

The first Armenians built the chapel by a graveyard in Armanitola. This chapel was replaced by the Holy Resurrection Church. As soon as a replacement was built on the current location, it became a local attraction. It is said that the people of the area used to synchronize their watches to the Church's bells. In 1990, an earthquake destroyed the clocktower.

The current church is rectangular. That and its marble floors are its most prominent architectural features. In front of the church, by the grave of Catachik Avatik Thomas is a statue of his wife bearing the inscription "Best of Husbands."
