About Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens

The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens were established in 1865. It is Vietnam's largest zoo and botanical garden located in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City. It has been home to over a hundred species of mammals, reptiles, and birds, as well as many rare orchids and ornamental plants. The Museum of Vietnamese History, housing some 25,000 artifacts of history, culture and ethnography of South Vietnam is within the grounds. Today the Saigon Zoo is one of the oldest continuously operating zoos of the world, with flora and faunal collection from every continent of the world. The Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden contain two crowd-puller places- A temple to the Hung Kings and the Museum of Vietnamese History. This place plays an essential role in animal conservation and education in the country.

How to reach

Hire a car and reach this place via Truong Sa. If you want to avail public transport, you may opt for bus no. 54,150 and 93. It is 11.8 km from the city center.

  • Do not disturb the animals in any form.
  • Wear comfortable footwear.
  • Don't forget to carry your cameras to capture the mesmerizing views.
  • Be aware of the social etiquette followed here, so the locals accept you better.
  • Be thoughtful while clicking pictures of the locals; some people might not like it. So, always take their permission first.
  • Always carry an ample amount of water so that you can stay hydrated during your tour.
  • Carry sunscreen if it's sunny outside.
