Emperor Jade Pagoda, also known as Tortoise Pagoda, is a colourful Taoist temple featuring several statues & stone carvings. This pagoda is an exceptional representation of the art and culture of the Mahayanist branch of Buddhism. It is one of the five most important shrines in the city and built at the strike of the 20th Century by a community of Cantonese migrating from Southwest China. Here, the statues describe the story of afterlife and judgment, where Emperor Jade Chua Ngoc Hoang, the 'God of the Heavens' decide who will go to heaven and who to the hereafter. This place is a living and working shrine used daily by the locals to pray with an offering of flowers, candles and incense sticks. There is also an overcrowded tortoise pond in front of the temple ground. Feeding the sacred animals is part of the temple ritual here.
Hire a cab or motorbike to reach the place through heavy traffic. You may opt to travel by bus as well. Bus route 150 goes near this place. It is 9.8 km from the city center.
