Independence palace or reunification palace, formerly known as Norodom Palace was designed by architect Ngo Viet Thu. It has served as the headquarters during the French and Japan colonial days, afterward, it was the base of the ruling royal family. Furthermore, it was the site of the end of the Vietnam War during the fall of Saigon on 30 April 1975 when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates. At present, there are photo galleries, a U.S. helicopter, and Russian tanks in the compound of this palace. The palace is an integral part of Vietnam's struggle for freedom and is frequented by the V.I.P.s as well as tourists. If you are into history and war, then this place will surely give you the thrills.
There are a series of buses that goes near this place. Take bus no. 150 and then either the bus no. 14, 19 or 93 to reach the place. You may hire a cab or a taxi to arrive in around 40 minutes. It is 9.8 km away from the city center.
