The National Museum of Visual Arts is more than a hundred years old, as it was inaugurated in 1911. This museum showcases the largest and finest collection of art by Uruguayan artists. Some works of famous artists like Rafael Barradas, Joaquín Torres García, José Cúneo, Carlos Federico Sáez, Pedro Figari, Juan Manuel Blanes, and the artist Pablo Serrano are on display here. Other illustrious paintings have also found their way here, during temporary exhibitions. These artworks are kept on display in the five halls meant for exhibitions. Apart from that, the museum has a huge library with 8,000  volumes on art, obviously the treasure chest for art lovers.

  • Try to find a location map since spotting the entrance to the museum inside the park might be difficult.
  • If you are interested in spending time in the library, then you need to be there between 11 a.m and 5 p.m from Monday to Friday.
  • A stroll in the beautiful garden outside the museum might do your mind and body a whole lot of good.

  • The days on which the museum might be closed is also given on the website.
  • The museum's website also gives information regarding various activities and workshops that are held from time to time.
  • Don't miss out on the really nice coffee and sweet goodies in the cafe outside the museum.
  • Special touch displays have been set up on the first floor for the convenience of visitors with visual impairment.
