Phuket's Big Buddha sitting atop the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata is one of the most important and revered landmarks on the island. The statue is a wonderful symbol of serenity. It is 25 meters across at the base and 45 meters in height, making it visible from as far away as Phuket Town and Karon Beach. The 360-degree view from the site encompasses the sweeping vistas of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon and Chalong Bay. It has a very peaceful atmosphere with pious tinkling sounds of small bells and soft background Dharma music enhanced by the fluttering of yellow Buddhist flags in the compound. The views are breathtaking and it is a must-see site in Phuket.
It can be easily reached via a winding 6-km road leading from Phuket's main artery route on foot or using a powerful scooter/motorcycle as the climb is quite steep.
