Barcelona Cathedral is a famous example of 15th-century Catalan Gothic architecture. Under the high altar is Saint Eulalia’s crypt, where a young Christian woman was tortured to death for defending her faith. The significance of this cathedral lies in the fact that it is the lone cathedral of Barcelona.
It can be a history buff's delight to see the fine Gothic architecture and Roman walls. The choir is one of the most special areas in the Cathedral, with a beautiful set of carved wooden chairs. Take an elevator to the rooftop to get a magnificent view of the city. The Cathedral is known for its 14th-century cloister full of palm trees and a Gothic portico where the mysterious 13 geese, representing Saint Eulalia, are said to wander. Visit the Chapel of the Holy Sacrament and of the Holy Christ of Lepanto that contains a cross, and the inhabitants of Barcelona have a special devotion to. Often throughout the year, there are markets and events in front of the cathedral, making for some interesting photography.
