Mariinsky Theatre is arguably Russia's most popular and the finest opera and ballet company. With its impressive size and the beautiful decoration of its interiors, it is a monumental landmark of the city. The auditorium has a seating capacity of 1,625 people and has a traditional U-shape. Over the years the theatre has undergone several renovations and been in need of repair. In 2007 the state-of-the-art Mariinsky Concert Hall opened and it became the theatre’s additional venue. The concert hall is located on the premises of the theatre and can accommodate an additional 1,100 people at a time. In 2013 the Mariinsky Theatre II was opened with a seating capacity of 2,000.
