About Kazan Cathedral

Located in the heart of St. Petersburg, the Kazan Cathedral is one of the most important historical and architectural sites of the city. It overlooks Nevsky Prospect, the most central street of St. Petersburg. This orthodox cathedral is a must-see for its stunningly beautiful exterior and uniquely detailed interior. The Kazan Cathedral was restored in the 1950’s and religious services were resumed in 1991. This huge cathedral serves as a monument to Russia's victory over Napoleon in the War of 1812 and today, houses the Museum of Religion.

Tips

  • Mobile phones should be switched off or put on silent mode while entering the cathedral.
  • If you want to enter the temple, it is customary for men to uncover their head and for women to cover their head and wipe off lipstick.
  • Wear clothes that are modest, neat, opaque, covering the shoulders and neckline, and preferably ankle length. You will not be allowed inside otherwise.
  • Noisy and naughty kids are to be taken outside until they calm down. Silence has to be maintained inside the premises.
  • Excursions inside the Kazan Cathedral cannot be conducted without special permission.
