It is inside the Bhatti Gate that there is a small mansion with the Faqir Khana Museum within it. The Faqir Khana Museum essentially houses in it the various relics of the Faqir family. The Faqir family are the ones who have been living in Lahore since the 18th Century. The wonderful thing about the collection at the Faqir Khana Museum is that it also happens to be the largest private collection in South Asia. The museum boasts over 13,000 pieces of art. You see, the head of the Lahore branch of the family used to be a fakir i.e. a Muslim ascetic from the regions of Bukhara. Even in the court of the Sikh ruler, Ranjit Singh, the three sons of the Faqir achieved a lot of prominence in spite of the fact that they were Muslims. In the court of the king, one son helped out as the royal physician, the second was sanctioned as the foreign minister and the third a finance minister.
It can be reached using a cab or car via Lahore – Kasur Rd.
