About Willowbank Wildlife Reserve

  All set within lovely naturalistic planting,  wander the lush foliage setting, over streams and alongside creeks, through open air natural and safe settings for the most beautiful, exotic birds and animals you'll see. Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is home for some special species in the country. Willowbank Wildlife Reserve is a family attraction that combines conservation, wildlife, and Maori culture. Ideal for children to mingle with wildlife. The reserve is home to 50 different types of animals and up to 500 individual animals, wandering free and housed in individually designed enclosures. In this Wildlife Reserve, one can find Tuatara, bush parrot Kaka, Big 5- Kiwi, the Takahe and Kea. If you are an animal lover you can enjoy seeing some other animals like Wallabies, Fallow Deer, Otters, Capuchins, Peacocks, Lemurs, Miniature Horses, Goats, and so many other lovely animals. You can explore three zones to learn about the county's endangered wildlife. Visitors can experience exotic wildlife in 'Wild New Zealand', livestock in 'Heritage New Zealand' and native species in 'Natural New Zealand 'zone. Ko Tane is a pre-European Maori village and an interactive Maori cultural experience. The evening cultural tour includes a visit to a Maori village, live performance show, and a traditional Hangi Meal. Surely visiting the farm animal area of the reserve is a great treat to look out for.

Must See

  • The four Kiwis in the nocturnal house are so nice to watch. They stay active almost all day. Don't miss them out.
  •  The reserve is also really informative on keas, tuataras, possums, moreporks, and much else.
  •  Watch the sheep shearing, eel feeding sessions.
  • There's also a petting area where one can pet the lambs and feed the piglets.

  • They offer complimentary shuttle service from city centre. 
  • you can catch Bus no. 107 from Northlands Mall. the fare is 13 NSD. distance is 12km.

  • Take Kiwi tour, its great.
  • If you have kids, buy feed for animals, they would love feeding them.
  • Buy annual pass if you have Idea of visiting the park again, this is an economical option.
  • Carry drinking water as the possibility of availability is very less.
  • Wear comfortable shoes since you need to walk a lot.
  • Carry winter wear since there is a possibility of low temperatures.
