About Orana Wildlife Park

 A very spacious wildlife park giving the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the animals at the only exclusive open range zoo of  Christchurch. You can feed some of the animals at different times of day  Luxuriously Spread out in massive 80 hectares, Orana Wildlife Park stands out from the other typical wildlife encounters in New Zealand housing birds, seals, dolphins, whales, and giraffes is that in contrast, at Orana Park, there are plenty of large mammals from around the world, as well as birds from New Zealand and elsewhere. Get the thrill of your life if you get a chance to feed long-necked Giraffes and get to feel the rough wet tongue of a giraffe as he takes the food from your hand. Take some time and enjoy feeding a Lemur, meet their national icon, the great kiwi. Dare yourself and travel through the lion habitat.  Get to see more than 70 species i.e. over 400 animals that are bred in natural enclosures.  Visitors can have a field day enjoying the antics of cheetah, tigers, Tasmanian devils, monkeys, meerkats and more. Not to be missed is an extensive NZ section that features kiwi, a wide range of birds and reptiles plus two walk-through aviaries (giving the chance to meet the mischievous kea).  You can have a really memorable time watching tigers, cheetah, Tasmanian devils, monkeys, meerkats and more. This wildlife park also runs an informative zoo-based breeding programme for endangered exotic and native species. In all its great day out for everyone visiting this amazing park.

  • Feeding Giraffe is great fun. Don't miss out that.
  • You can buy a special ticket to go inside a special caged truck to be 'on the inside' of the lion feed.
  • The onsite restaurant/cafe where they have a great range of home cooked cakes, pies, treats, etc for all of the family. 
  • watch the incredible African Hunting Dogs feed. 
  •  The little buggy train to take you around to see the whole zoo is not to be missed.
  • Meerkats, amazing porcupines, and a farm animal area.
  • Orana Park is currently home to the only gorillas and the only Orang-utans in New Zealand.

 

How to reach

  • Orana Wildlife Park provides door to door shuttle service, but they charge for that. charges being 25 NZD.
  • If you want to go at your convinient time, hiring taxi is best.distance is 10 km. Fare is 30 NZD.

Tips

  • The park is really big, it takes two visits. Taking an annual pass would be best and economical.
  • Carry your own food, it will be convenient for spending a day long here.
  • You can hire a pram there, it's not too expensive.
  • There will be plenty of toilets and flat walkways for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
  • A Cafe and Gift Shop are also on the grounds of the Park
  • Carry drinking water as the possibility of availability is very less.
  • Wear comfortable shoes since you need to walk a lot.
