About Mouassine Museum

Musee de Mouassine is a famous museum located on the Derb el-Hammam in the Saadian quarter. It is a historic treasure of amazing artifacts. As you step inside the museum, a marvelous reception, that is a jewel of Arab-Andalusian architecture, welcomes you. The reception leads to a staircase to Douiria. Douiria was a guesthouse that was built in the late 16th and early 17th century during the reign of Sultan Moulay Ismail. This historical site is a stunning example of Saadian architecture. The rooms of the house are dedicated to temporary and permanent exhibitions. It has temporary photography exhibitions displayed in the restored interior. The belvedere terrace of the museum is actually a rooftop cafe that welcomes you with a superb view of the Atlas Mountains.

Patrick Manac’h acquired the Musee de Mouassine to renovate it. It was renovated between the years 2012 and 2014 to display a collection of traditional Moroccan artifacts. The site is extremely rich in the interior. Visitors at the museum get amazed by the wooden ceilings symphony of color used in the reception, Douiria, and the salon. The passage from the Douiria leads through a long gallery. This gallery portrays a unique collection of antique Berber carpet on the walls. This building is an important example of the domestic architecture of the era. When you are at this museum, make a visit to the salon. The salon has been carefully crafted to display an example of exemplary architecture. On the side of the salon, you can also enjoy a short story about the restoration of the museum.
