Whether you’re hungry or not, the Zelenyy Bazaar or Green Bazaar in Almaty is worth a visit. This market has been in operation since 1875. The bazaar was reconstructed following an earthquake in 1887 and has been known as the Zelyony Bazaar ever since.
The Green Bazaar gets its name from the wide assortment of products sold there. Since its inception, the market has been the place to go for vegetables and spices. Among the delectable favorites are nuts, fresh fruit, fish, cheese, and herbs. Merchants also sell fabrics, furniture, and antiques. If you’re daring, you could try one of the vendors selling horse meat or horse milk. Thirsty for more? Try camel milk or tea.
