You may think there’s nowhere else on earth quite like the Grand Canyon in Arizona, United States. Then you haven’t seen the Charyn Canyon in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Also known as Sharyn Canyon, this beautiful canyon is 154 km long.
Nature has created another red sandstone marvel. The rock formations of the Charyn Canyon have many interesting shapes and sizes. The best known of these are the Witch’s Gorge, and Ghosts Gorge.
Wind and water have created five different sections to the canyon: Valley of Castles, Yellow Canyon, Temirlik Canyon, Red Canyon, and Bestamak Canyon. The Valley of Castles is also known as the Red Canyon and has high cliffs that look like castles. Yellow Canyon looks more like the moon!
You can stand at the edge, or you can spend a few days camping and exploring. Fancy a rush? Go white-water rafting down the Charyn River. Take an ATV and go on a true adventure. Just get yourself there and let yourself go...!
