The Basilica di San Marco is arguably Venice's most gorgeous structure. In a city littered with stunning buildings, that's no mean achievement.
Built in the Byzantine style and completed in 1092 AD, the imposing cathedral houses the remains of St. Mark and was the Doge's private chapel, which probably explains the opulence.
Visitors are instantly spellbound by the lavish interiors, especially the numerous gilded mosaics. There's plenty of fabulous art and antefacts to stare at as well. From the top, there's the memorable view of the St. Mark's Square and the Doge's Palace.
Nicknamed the 'Church of Gold', this cathedral is truly an impressive achievement.
The church's impressive architecture, Fabulous interiors, St. Mark's museum and the view of St. Mark's Square from the top.
