  • The Schmutzer Primate Center.
  • Reptiles such as turtles, crocodiles, and the Komodo dragon.
  • Mammals such as langurs, gibbons, macaques, white gorillas, and orangutans.
  • Also to be seen are the raccoon, binturong, beaver, Asian palm civet, Jave mouse-deer, Javan porcupine, the babirusa, llama, eland, camel, Arabian oryx, leopards, tigers, black bear, Sumatran tigers, sun bear.
  • Birds such as pelicans, swans, Javan peafowl, Javan hawk-eagle, brahminy kite, white-bellied sea eagle, crested serpent eagle, Bali starling, Sulawesi hornbill, palm cockatoo, common hill myna, crowned pigeons, cockatoos, and pheasants. Large birds like the ostrich and the cassowary are to be seen in separate compounds.
  •  The river valley on the east consists of wetlands, swamps, and features crocodiles and gavial.
  • The plains on the east are Savanna -like and one can see various kinds of deer such as the rare Bawean deer, muntjac, sambar deer and the wild buffalo like the anoa.
  • Other animals one can see are the hippopotamus, white tigers, Javan wild ox, and the proboscis monkey.
  •  Children's zoo, playground, and rides.
  • Pony cart and the boat ride on the Ragunan Lake.

How to reach

The Ragunan zoo is located in the sub-district called Passar Minguu which is located in southern Jakarta. One can reach the zoo via the TransJakarta Corridor bus which is identifiable by its grey color, and through the outer ring road.

Take the bus from Departemen Kesehatan and travel for 21 minutes(corridor 6) at Rp. 3423.80. Then walk for 20 minutes for 1.7 km approximately.

 One can also hire a taxi and get to the zoo comfortably and pay Rp. 98686.

Driving down can cost upwards from Rp.14100 to 20140.

Tips

  • Wear sensible footwear as there will be a lot of walking to be done.
  • There are many cafes and eating joints like Hay Thien, Starbucks, Le Gran, Taman Indraloka, and Ta Wan. near the zoo where one can have a hearty meal after an exhausting visit of the wildlife at the zoo.
  • Wearing light clothing is recommended to beat the sultry climate.
  • The restrooms are not very well equipped so it is a good idea to keep a sanitizer and some wet wipes handy.
  • Carry enough drinking water.
  • Those accompanying children must keep them close at hand.
  • Do not try to feed the animals.
  • Carry sunscreen and a hat to keep the harsh rays of the sun at bay.
