About National Museum, Jakarta

Established in 1778 as a scientific initiative by a group of Dutch intellectuals known as the Royal Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences, The National Museum in Jakarta holds a very historical significance with archaeological findings and ethnographic objects from Sumatra to Papua. The enormous collection of ancient sculptures also earned it another moniker, Gedung Arca or ‘building of statues’. The Museum also puts an emphasis on presenting a variety of these artefacts and striving to keep it on a high qualitative level.

How to reach

The local transit has various stops to the National Museum: Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat 4b; Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat 5b; Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat 3b; Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat 6b; Monas. You can get to the National Museum by taking the following Bus routes: - Bus: 1A, 2C, 5A.

Tips

  •  Do not touch the artefacts in the museum
  •  Smoking and Drinking is prohibited and can attract fines
  •  Tour guides are available
  •   It is not advisable to carry food items near the exhibits.
  •   Photography is allowed inside the Museum.
  •   English tours are each second and last Saturday every month.
  •   French tours are every third Wednesday of the month.
  •   Korean and Japanese tours every first Tuesday.
  •   A souvenir shop is available.
