About Topography of Terror

One of the most frequently visited museums and memorial centers in Berlin is the Topography of Terror. It is an outdoor as well as an indoor museum. During the Nazi regime, it was the headquarters of SS Reich Main Security Office. During the visit, you can see 15 stations and informational signs which provide an overview of the site's use during the Nazi period and the postwar era.

  • The "Topography of Terror" permanent exhibition covers 15 information stations where the crimes were planned.
  • In the stations, you can view photographs, graphics, and documents which provide detailed information.
  • The site also contains the longest surviving section of the Berlin Wall on the East Berlin side.
  • Several ministries of the Nazi state were placed close to Wilhelmstraße in the former government sector.
  • Thirty panels tell the story of the buildings.

Tips

  • The admission is free.
  • Coat hangers and deposit boxes aren't charged.
  • There's a cafeteria on the 1st floor. The museum also sells many interesting history books at affordable prices.
  • You need more than three hours to go through all the exhibits.
  • Avoid taking children as there are photos of tortured and murdered people throughout the museum.
  • The museum has a lot of historical information but it is all texts and images displayed on the walls. It's better to go with a guide.
