About Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe

This memorial is also famous as the Holocaust Memorial. Engineer Buro Happold and architect Peter Eisenman designed the memorial which stretches over a 4.7-acre (1.9-hectare) plot. It was opened in 2005 to remember and honour the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust. The memorial has 2,711 concrete pillars of varying heights forming a grid-like structure that can be approached and viewed from all angles. The undulating ground and ever-changing horizon line creates an uneasy and difficult pathway.
