The Brandenburg Gate was built in 1791 on the orders of Prussian king Frederick William II. It has twelve columns, six on the entrance side and six on the exit. It became infamous during the Cold War when it was considered as a sad symbol for the division of Berlin and the rest of Germany. When Germany was reunified in November 1989, the Brandenburg Gate became New Berlin's symbol of unity. One of the must-see attractions, it offers a spectacular display of fireworks on New Year’s Eve. Near the Brandenburg Gate is the Brandenburg Gate Museum.
