The Tower of London is one of the most iconic attractions in London. Located on the north bank of the River Thames, the Tower's construction was started by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. The Tower consists of several buildings and has served as many things over the years: an armory, treasury, a menagerie (precursor of the modern zoo), and home of Crown Jewels of England. The White Tower, one of the buildings in the complex, was in fact used as a prison. The Tower is also a place where several royal members met their end, leading to alleged supernatural occurrences within the tower. Loaded with history, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a place you must see.
