About Big Ben

There are some landmarks that are inextricably linked to their cities. In the case of Big Ben, it is London. The giant clock has been ticking away without any major problems since its completion in 1859. Housed in the 315-ft Elizabeth Tower, located at the northern end of the Houses of Parliament, it takes 334 steps (11 floors) to reach the top. The tower, built in a Neo-Gothic style, was designed by Augustus Pugin. Big Ben is a World Heritage Site and a British icon.
