Formerly known as St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Zagreb cathedral is the most monumental Neo-Gothic style building southeast of the Alps. Its twin spires are prominent landmarks that appear from any corner of the city. The cathedral has been renovated after being damaged by series of attacks and an earthquake in 1880. Its primary gothic structure has been modified many times over, but the vestibule still contains frescos dating from the 13th century. The cathedral houses one of the top ten finest organs in the world. The final resting place for many Croatian martyrs, the cathedral is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, and Kings Saint Stephen and Saint Ladislaus.
The Cathedral is accessible on foot from Zagreb's Ban Jelačić Square. You could either climb the stairs or take the elevator from inside the Dolac market.
