Dubrovnik has a lot when it comes to history and Orlando is yet another story to add to it. According to legend in the 9th century, Orlando and his fleet saved Dubrovnik from a 15-month long Saracen siege. To express their gratitude the citizens decided to erect this column in Orlando’s honour. Orlando Column Dubrovnik is right in front of the Church of St Blasius. The Orlando Column is used during the opening and closing ceremony of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. You will see that he still stands and guards a banner hoisted on the supported mast above the column.
Orlando’s Column or Orlando Stop in Dubrovnik is a monument situated in The Old Town, right in the centre of Luža Square in front of St Blaise’s Church. You can get to St Blaise Church by Bus or Ferry. These are the lines and routes that have stops nearby - Bus: 1A, 3, 6. If you are travelling via bus, the closest to your destination would be Supila 2; Iza Grada; Pile; Krešimira 1; Zagrebačka 3.
