Located 600 meters from the City of Dubrovnik, the Adriatic island of Lokrum lies in its powerful solitary beauty. Mysteries and ancient legends surround this beautiful floating land which never failed to seduce conquerors and religious settlers. The island is said to have been cursed by its own beauty and imposing presence, just off the coast of Dubrovnik, anecdotes and Benedictine monasteries are all that is left on this mystic land of secrets.
Lokrum Island is located at a very short distance from Dubrovnik Old Town, which you can conveniently reach via a ferry ride. Plan your day to the island with your family or friends so that you can just relax and rejuvenate yourself. The island is surrounded by plenty of pine, cypress, and olive trees as well as some other subtropical vegetation which offers tranquility and shade, especially during the hot summer days. There is a Botanical Garden where you can take a walk and find a hundred different kinds of trees and plants. Come see some peacocks which were brought to the island more than a hundred years ago! It's a perfect picnic spot where you can spend time with your loved ones. You even have enough space for volleyball or even a game of football.
You can take a boat which leaves every half hour in the summer (less often in the rest of the year) from Porporela – the Dubrovnik’s Old Port. The trip lasts 15 minutes and costs 40 Kuna (about 5 Euros). It sails regularly from Dubrovnik Old Town’s port to the island. It is serviced by a local ferry company that sails to the island two to four times per hour depending on the season.
You can also get to the island by sea kayak.
It is 2.2 km away from the city center.
Lokrum Island is situated in front of Old Town Dubrovnik, ten minutes pleasant sail by the taxi boat that departs from Dubrovnik. From the Old city port regular taxi boats run every hour during spring and automn, during summer the departure and return are every 30 minutes.
