Massive and magnificent, Teatro Adolfo Mejia is a great place to visit if you are looking for some professional entertainment at Cartagena. Filled with beautiful decorated walls and ceiling, and a huge performance area, the theater is one of the favorite spots for tourists and locals alike. Built in the year 1911 to commemorate a century of Colombian independence, it resembles the design of Havana’s Tacon Theater. It has been restored multiple times. The winding Italian marble stairs and sculptures, and the colorfully decorated ceiling and walls will make you feel like you are in a fairy tale scene. The theater houses a horseshoe shaped performance hall overlooked by Portuguese wooden balconies. National and International shows are hosted here; if you are in Cartagena in the second week of January, do not miss the annual traditional music concert that happens every year during that time.
It is a 12 minute drive from the city center and can be reached by taxi. It will cost you around 30000 COP to 40000 COP.
