About Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is a 45-minute shuttle or speedboat ride away from Catagena on the beautiful Isla Baru. It is one of Colombia’s Rosario Islands with stunning blue water and golden sand. It reaches into the Caribbean with stunning views all around. Playa Blanca is absolutely beautiful and stretches as far as the eye can see. With the coming of the new bridge connecting Isla Baru directly to Cartagena, Playa Blanca has become more accessible to tourists and has turned into a very popular destination. Spend a day walking on the golden beach, drinking tropical juices and coconut water, and enjoying many adventurous water sports at Playa Blanca.The island is a good escape from the city life and buildings. Feel the freshness of the tropics and enjoy a dip in the waves as you spend your day at the beach with family. There are small stalls where you can get authentic sea food and fresh coconut water. There may be vendors trying to sell you things; you can buy if you think it is worth the price. Playa Blanca is an ideal beach destination and a perfect holiday away from the madding city life.

How to reach

Take a bus to Pascaballos from the intersection of Calle 30 and Carrera 17 (30 minutes, COP 1,800) and then a mototaxi to Playa Blanca from Pascaballos.

You can reach by speedboat from Mercado Bazurto. It is a 45 minute ride and can cost you $20,000COP to $40,000 COP one way.

 

Tips

  • If you are taking a speedboat, be at the dock by 3 p.m, or you may find yourself having to wait until the next day.
  • The beach is always crowded with tourists and vendors trying to sell goods.
  • Don't carry too many things as you will need to walk across water and sand.
  • Carry sunscreen and a hat as it can be very hot and sunny during afternoons.
  • It is a good idea to take water bottles as it can get hot and humid.
  • Have enough cash in hand as the shops will not take credit cards.
