Need a novel experience, head towards the largest body of fresh water in Southeast Asia, yes! The “Tonle sap lake”, Siem Reap. The surprising thing is that the direction of the flow of water in this lake changes twice a year. November to May is the country’s dry season where the lake empties into the Mekong River. Hence, during that phase the lake’s natural features seem less spectacular. The rainy season from August to September, the waters enters the enormous lake and the view of-course is enhanced.
The floating market, the local people living in floating houses made of bamboo and stilted houses, the beautiful sunset from the lake are a treat to your eyes. Fishing is the main source of income here. This lake shelters a large number of endangered bird species too.
How else to end the wonderful day at the lake but to opt for the cruise trip on the lake, indulging in champagne and recording the ambience of the place within you.
From Chong Kneas the entrance fee is $20 (81847 Cambodian riel) per person. It includes a boat trip through the floating village and takes you to the beginning of the Tonle Sap lake . This also includes local tourism tax. There should be no additional fee.
