About Cambodia Landmine Museum

You might not think landmines deserve their own museum. The Cambodia Landmine Museum and Relief Facility in the Banteay Srey Temple complex is a little different.

There was a Khmer man named Aki Ra who removed landmines with a stick. He saved them in his house and began charging a dollar fee to see them. The Cambodian government ordered Aki Ra to shut his museum down in 2007. Fundraising from a Canadian NGO and donations helped buy the land inside the Angkor National Park. Aki Ra moved. There are four galleries showcasing the landmines effect on civilization, not just through war.

The museum is different because it is also the home to 27 children. Funds help to tell the story of Aki Ra, explain the landmine influence, and to care for the children who live there.

To bring the severe impact of landmines on the lives of Cambodians to the public, the Landmine Museum was founded by ex-child soldier Aki Ra. The place sheds light on the effects of civil war and has a huge collection of weapons, mortars, weaponry, and guns. The funds generated by the museum are used to build schools, educate the poor, orphan, and abandoned children. Visit this museum to get a better idea about landmines. Your entry fee goes to a noble cause of helping the needy.
