Sao Paulo Zoo is the largest zoo in Brazil with an area of more than two hundred acres of space in the place of the erstwhile Atlantic Forest. It has a collection of more than three thousand displays. The Zoo displays more than 3,200 animals in enclosures that mimic the natural habitats of these animals. The place was created in June 1957 and it became the first Brazilian institution to engage in endangered animal recovery stages. It also has a nursery for cubs who are rejected by their mothers, along with electric incubation system for eggs of bird and reptiles. Besides the education function of the property, the place partnered with other states and foreign institutions for researching ways for the preservation of endangered species.
The zoo can be easily reached by public transport. Take a Blue/line 1 metro to Jabaquara. From there, a dedicated bus runs back-and-forth to the zoo and the metro station. You can rent a car to reach by SP-160, but it would take longer considering the traffic jam.
