It is a museum of visual art with extensive emphasis and collection of Brazilian native works. It is housed in a 1900’s building designed by Ramos de Azevedo and Domiziano Rossi and is the oldest art museum in São Paulo, originally built in 1905. The place was established as a state museum since 1911. In the 1990's it underwent an extensive renovation as part of a project by the famous architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. Pinacoteca receives more than four lakh (400,000) annual visitors in the galleries. The museum's main focus is to promote to the common public and the young generation a better perspective with the visual arts with its collection, building and historical relevance to the national heritage.
You may take the bus no. 218 or 314 to reach the place, but as it is only 700 meters away from the city centre, a walk is enough to reach the place.
