Parque Ibirapuera is a 158-hectare park in São Paulo. Inauguration of the park coincided with the city’s 400th anniversary in 1954. It is the most-visited park in South America.
Its English landscape design has been compared to Central Park in New York City and Hyde Park in London, and no wonder. There are playground, pavilions, and walkways for jogging and walking away from the city noise. Among its pavilions is the Japanese Pavilion, with materials shipped from Japan and built in the style of the Katsura Palace.
The Ibirapuera Park plays host to São Paulo Fashion Week, the Adventure Sports Fair, and the largest Picasso exhibition in Latin America. The Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Afro-Brazil Museum are all located here.
Take a stroll through the manicured gardens, stop at one of the museums, or just sit on a park bench and watch the passersby. It truly is “a green oasis at the heart of a concrete jungle.”
