Ibirapuera Park is often described as the green oasis amidst the concrete jungle of the city of Sao Paulo. It is a large urban park in the heart of the metropolis that offers respite from the hustle and bustle of the city life. The place was inaugurated in 1954 on the occasion of 400th anniversary of the city of São Paulo. The buildings were designed by the legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer and the landscape was done by agronomist Otávio Augusto Teixeira Mendes. The emerald heart of a busy city, the place is not only a park but also the hub of cultural activity and events. Decorated with tall trees surrounding the large lake, mentally-stimulating magnificent structures, the place stands apart from the typical city parks. Local people, as well as tourists, flock to this place to enjoy the running trails, yoga sessions and bike paths or the delicious food and drinks from the stalls. There is a cluster of museums and galleries such as the museums of Modern and Contemporary Art as well as artworks by Eduardo Kobra etc. which brings fans and critics from all over the world. The Museum Afro Brasil and fiery Auditório Ibirapuera are two of the park's much-popular treasures.
