Municipal Theatre of São Paulo is one of the major landmarks and tourist attractions in São Paulo. This place is imbued with significant architectural value and historical importance, as it was the venue of the "Week of Modern Art" in 1922, which revolutionised Modern arts in Brazil. The Theatre was opened in 1911 and was designed by Brazilian architect Ramos de Azevedo. It is inspired by the Paris Opera. Decorated with Neoclassical columns, frescoes in the walls and the ceilings, chandeliers, and statues, etc. this place keeps history alive. The stained-glass panels, created by Conrado Sorgenicht Filho were restored to their full glory in 2011 and continues to mesmerize the tourists. The Italian community gifted a fountain celebrating the Independence of Brazil, which is outside the place, and it was inspired by the Trevi Fountain in Rome.
The place is near the city centre and if you walk it takes around 20 minutes to reach the place. But, some of the neighbourhood is not safe completely, so you would do better to take a cab which takes around 15 minutes by Rue 25 De Marco.
