It is a large public market in the Mercado neighbourhood in Sao Paulo, which was designed by the architect Francisco Ramos de Azevedo. It was opened in 1933 as a wholesale market with a huge variety and collection of fruits, vegetables, meats, spices and other food products. It is locally known as the "Big market" and one of the most visited tourist spots in the city. Besides the food collection and great restaurants, the magnificent structure with the ionic and Doric columns, vaults and stained-glass windows which show various aspect of food production are the major points of attraction for this place.
It is very near the city centre and can be reached by walking.
