Mosteiro de São Bento is a church located in São Paulo, Brazil, established in 1598. The current church was built between 1910 and 1914 following an eighteenth-century style, with a plain exterior. It is situated on the very site where first Portuguese Catholic priests arrived in the early age of Sao Paulo. The interior of the place is mesmerising; with mosaic, frescos and stained-glass windows, the style is inspired by German baroque and rococo churches. The corridor by the gift shop inside the church is decorated with interesting paintings and has a collection of some beautiful pieces of art. The masses with live Chore and Gregorian chants are very popular. Pope Benedict XVI stayed here when visiting Sao Paulo in 2007.
Sao Bento Metro Station is just in front of the Church, it is a few minutes walk away from the place.
