The Botanical Garden of São Paulo is a verdure, calm and refreshing to the visitors, it functions as one of the lungs of the city. It is situated in the immense Parque Estadual Fontes do Ipiranga (PEFI) on the south side of town. The Garden spans across an area of 164.45-hectare, providing a skillfully arranged sanctuary for thousands of tropical plant and animal species. The botanist, Frederico Carlos Hoehne founded the place in its current location, in 1928. It was opened in 1938 with the goal to preserve part of the remaining Atlantic coastal forest. The place houses the state's Botanical Institute (Instituto de Botânica, which functions as a research facility focusing on Brazilian flora and fauna.)
The place is almost 15 km from the city centre. If you are in a hurry, book a cab by BR-050 and SP-160. Else, you may take the blue line metro and get down in Conceicao to reach this place.
