Catavento Museum is an institute dedicated to science, with the goal of providing hands-on experience to the young and inquisitive minds. The museum was opened in 2009 by the culture and education secretariat of the municipality. It is located in a magnificent Victorian-era structure, with an old steam locomotive, several pieces of meteorites, an air-place, horse carriages, an iron structure that houses different species of butterflies and a huge number of interactive hands-on exhibits and educational activities. The topics include space, wildlife, nature and geography, the human body, etc. with special emphasis on the Brazilian ecosystem. They are presented in action-filled, engaging fashion for the impressionable minds.
It is near the city centre, around 1.2 km by walking. But the surrounding neighbourhood can be a bit sketchy, so taking a cab is recommended which takes around 10 minutes to reach the place.
