The Valle de la Luna is an amazing landscape and spectacular scenery, just outside the city limits. The Moon Valley (Valle de la Luna) is a small mountain range made of salt, clay, and sand with spectacularly eroded red rock features and bizarre geologic formations resembling that of the moon. In the middle of the Valle de la Luna, there is a place called the Amphitheatre which is a huge red rock protruding from the earth. At the top, there is a place called Great Dune, which is a massive sand dune. During sunset, the beautiful landscape changes its color. It is said to have been named by astronaut Neil Armstrong and looks like a carpet of stalagmites canvasing a desert. It isn't really a valley, but an amazing collection of canyons and spires. It has mineral content, so the rock formations create a colorful scene, ranging from beige to dark purple.
