This Plaza is surrounded by Government Palace, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Municipal Government House. There is also the Cathedral, and across a narrow street from it, a museum. It is the central square in La Paz and is the most important political site in the country. In the center of the Plaza, there is a statue of Pedro Murillo, a Bolivian leader who was hung by the Spanish in the 1810 Independence revolt. There are lots of pigeons on the site and visitors stop to feed them. It is also a pleasant place where people rest on benches for a while. There is a big clock in the Government Palace. The Plaza Murillo is in the older part of town and the building style is very colonial. The Plaza is also a place where many city celebrations take place. A building with bullet holes is there which is a sign of the battle for control over this nation.
It's a good place to have a snack from a local vendor, just relax for a while, and watch the locals and other passers-by.
