Plaza San Francisco, situated right in the heart of downtown, is the city’s biggest and most important plaza. In this plaza, the famous cathedral, the San Francisco Cathedral (Iglesia de San Francisco), is situated. It is the city's liveliest plaza where people enjoy meetings, snacks, and watch many comedians, storytellers, and magicians performing there.
Many political protests and rallies frequently happen here. There is a mass of rock pillars and stone faces in the upper portion of Plaza San Francisco, representing Bolivia’s three great cultures – Tiwanaku, Inca, and modern (Aymara). From the famous coffee shop, Cafe del Mundo, grab a coffee and relax for some time.
Adjacent to the place are the cloisters and garden of Museo San Francisco which display the city’s history. Religious paintings, historical artifacts, and interesting anteroom can be found there. It is one of the public squares where one can find architectural masterpieces and street performers, handicraft vendors, and a food market.
From the city, it will take around 12 minutes to reach the place.
