La Paz’s MUSEF is located near to Murillo Square and portrays the Bolivians ethnic culture and diversity. Founded in 1925 it is surprisingly a modern museum with a collection of textiles, hats, and pottery from the different regions of Bolivia. This public non-profit institution helps in the preservation of Bolivia’s ethnology and also an expansion of its cultural artifacts collection. There is a library inside the museum which preserves around 15,000 printed works, including rare historic books. Video documentaries about Bolivians ethnological and folkloric topics are also preserved in the museum. It also highlights about 3,000 years of textiles through blankets, skirts, and beautifully woven tapestries by local Bolivians. The most eye-catching things in the museum are the feathered costumes and traditional hats. There is another small section in the museum which shows Bolivia's wildlife through videos and models. One can also learn about the significance of miners in Bolivia which is very intriguing. The museum also offers different courses of modern, classic and folk dance, arts, and pottery.
Ride a bus or taxi to the stop at the southern end of nearby Plaza Mayor.
There is also a private tour that includes hotel pickup and drop-off.
