About Crown Fountain

Crown Fountain has a unique concept for a fountain. Enjoy the squirt of water on hot, sunny days even as you take in the varying expressions on the giant screens. These interactive screens contain photos of the citizens which appear on it. The best part of this is seeing the faces and the water being spewed out of the mouth, which is very impressive to both local and international tourists. A good spot for the kids to play and splash in the shallow pool. It is within the Millenium Park, so one can also pay a visit to the other attractions there.

Must See

  • Located within the Millenium Park.
  • It was designed by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa and it is made up of two 50 feet glass block towers.
  • There is a screen that projects the faces of many Chicago locals with their open mouths from where the waterfall occurs.
  • This is an interactive piece of public art and video projection and makes use of design elements including water, light, and glass to project the faces of the Chicagoans spewing out water.
  • The surface of the fountain is made up of matte black granite covered over by a water-skin, a shallow reflecting pool. The pool invites visitors to step onto it and take a look at the images of the sky and the city that is reflected within.
  • 2017 saw the fountain undergo an almost complete overhaul to introduce avant-garde technology and also install new video projection screens.
