This giant titanium statue, the Motherland Monument, also known as the "Brezhnev's Daughter" is a majestic statue that essentially celebrates the Soviet's Victory over the Nazi Germany. It happens to be the city's most distinct features and stands tall at the height of 62m. It is so tall that it is actually visible, clear as day, from many points of the city of Kiev beautifully. The statue/monuement is essentially a part of the Museum of the great Patriot Wars, which was established to honour the Ukranian Soldiers who defended Kiev during the World War II. The very final plans regarding the statue were zeroed in, in the year 1978, with the construction beginning in 1979. In the year 1981, the statue was officially unveiled in a ceremony that was attended by the Soviet General Secretary Leonid Brezhnev. The structure of the statue includes a sword that it holds in its right hand, which, in itself, is 16m long and a sheild in the left arm which is 13m by 8 m in dimension.
