One of the most major Baroque churches in Kiev, the St. Andrew's Church was constructed between 1747 and 1754. The basic designing of the church was done by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Perched on top of a steep hill, now known as the Andriyivska Hill thanks to the church itself, the structure overlooks the beautiful and historic neightbourhood of Podil. Listed as one of the four monuments in the List Of Mankind Tressures of Five Continents by the world society, the church happens to be one of the four main architectural landmarks of Ukraine. The Church was built in the honour of the "Apostle Rus" aka Saint Andrew. The structure that now is on top of the hill is one whose construction began when Elizabeth, a Russian Empress wanted a summer residence constructed for herself wich would also consist of a palace and church too. The construction of the church in itself was conducted by RUssian, Foreign and Ukranian masters. They worked under the direction of the architect Ivan Michurin.
