Situated bang in the middle of Kiev, the Saint Saint Volodymyr's Cathedral was built between the years 1862 and 1896. The interiors of the church pay a wonderful homage and are a grand example of what Ukranian art and architecture were like in the middle and late 19th century. The architects, when constructing this beautiful cathedral, had the example of architecture of Byzantium or Kyivan Rus' in their minds. The output of this imagination of the architects' turned out to be something that was beautifully eclectic and wonderfully romantic. The decoration on the exterior of the cathedral, inspiration has been taken from quite a few eastern sources, a majority of which are from the Byzantine church architecture from early Bulgaria. It was the designer Aleksandr Beretti who was orignally credited for the beautiful deisgn of the cathedral. However, when issues regarding shortages in funds, more architects were brought on board for the project. It was in the year 1862 that a new design was made by the designer and the construction re-commenced thereafter from the year 1872.
