About Mariyinski Palace

Majestic and awe-striking, the construction of the Mariinsky Palace, was done in the 18th century in baroque style. The palace was built between the years 1750 and 1755 by the daughter of Peter I, Empress Elizabeth as she was extremely smitten by the city of Kyiv and decided to build a residence of the emperor here itself. This palace once served as a residence for the representatives of the royal family and various nobles when they used to come to Kiev for their occasional visits. However, the sad part about the whole thing is that Elizabeth never really managed to visit her Kyivan residence.  As a result of this, Catherine II ended up becoming the very first resident of the palace. Int his day and age, however, the palace has been converted into a ceremonial place of residence for the Ukrainian President. A number of crucial events of national importance,  ceremonies like receptions, summits and meetings of foreign delegations are held here from time to time.
